What are the elements of the libertarian movement and how does one of its most illustrious proponents, Milton Friedman, apply its tenets to issues facing the United States today? Milton Friedman, Senior Research Fellow, Hoover Inst., Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences discusses how he balances the libertarians' desire for a small, less intrusive government with environmental, public safety, food and drug administration, and other issues. When celebrities and politicians die, I don't even blink. Just seeing Milton Friedman here and knowing he is gone tears me to pieces. He is one of the reasons I devote most of my free time to studying economics, and one of the few people responsible for my cured apathy.

Milton has got a point. He who owns his own property will take care of it best.

The main difference between European and American definitions is the fact that the US has no legacy of monarchy. Each American is a sovereign individual, not a subject. The power to govern lies in each individual American who only lend it to political leaders in measured amount and for limited duration at regularly scheduled elections. What makes us exceptional is that we don't see government as the source of our rights. They exist as a birthright. We defend our individuality.

@TheMa11lman Small point i don't think free markets will disappear any day soon do you .

@TheMa11lman Yup you are correct about the evolution thing i knew as soon as i had typed it that it was over simplistic but as you may have read in my previous posts that the only libertarians i personally know are all ex right wing conservatives (and really their still ultra right) so i'm still trying to get my head around a laissez-faire socialist , thank you though it is food for thought and good food at that .

@woofalot13 Libertarian socialism is in no way a contradiction of terms if you use the original definition of what libertarian is. Originally libertarianism referred to a near stateless society with no reference to free markets. Also whilst the theory of evolution states that species must become more complicated it has nothing to do with politics. I would refer you to another scientific principal Ockham's Razor which very clearly states that the most simple answer is usually the correct one.
